Bert Bottoms love for his dear wife Betty had given him strength whilst he had been captured by the cannibals in the Caribbean....which can be very painful !!
Bert had cleverly escaped his captors and worked his passage over the seas to return to England and eventually arriving in Stanton St. John.
When he found out that Betty had married again he went straight to the manorhouse to confront her.
As soon as Betty saw her Bert again all the love she had for him came flooding back.
So that they could be together again they devised a plan to murder Lord Wind.
This they cold heartedly did soon after, the way they did it is too terrible to relate here, especially for those of a nervous disposition.
